Rejection (poverty)

It’s the 21st century
The media displays it day and night,
Poverty.
Poverty across the globe lies
Poverty cries out from the belly of little boys
Little girls, parents too
Desperately searching for food,
Shelter, clothing, for love,
Companion, for attention
Those with plenty, refuse
To amend, a world haunted by
Poverty.
Its like the rich get richer
and the poor dont get a f***ing thing
I mean they got money for wars
but they can't feed the poor.
Is poverty affecting the rich?
Are their poverty the same?
Or are they just looking for excuses to reject us
It's the 21st Century

  1. Awesome!
This is a passionate and heartfelt poem. You use language effectively to engage the reader, to create a strong insistent voice and to emphasize your message.

I’m interesting in the connection you make between poverty and rejection. Are you saying that poverty is a form of rejection? Or that it leads to rejection? Could you just explain below in more detail what you think the connection is between poverty and rejection?

Also, could you write a paragraph making connections between your poem and ‘Huckleberry Finn’? Are there any similarities in the themes / messages that your poem and the novel explore?
